Purpose of these guidelines
These Advertising Guidelines set the standards for every advert, sponsored placement and promoted listing on Cape Town Local at bloubergstrand.co.za. They apply to all advertisers and form part of our agreement with you. In them, "we", "us" and "our" mean Cape Town Local, operated by a South African sole trader trading as Cape Town Local, and "you" means the advertiser.
General standards
Every advert must be legal, decent, honest and truthful. It must not mislead, must make any material terms or conditions clear, and must be suitable for a general local audience that includes a wide range of ages and backgrounds. Claims about products, prices or services must be accurate and capable of being supported if we ask.
Accepted formats and quality
We accept standard display adverts and sponsored content placements in the formats and sizes published on the site or supplied to you when you book. Creative should be clear, good quality and correctly sized, with legible text and images you have the right to use. We may decline material that is low quality, broken, or that does not fit the placement.
Prohibited content
Adverts and sponsored placements must not contain or promote:
- anything illegal under South African law, or goods and services that are unlawful to sell;
- false, misleading or exaggerated claims;
- discriminatory, hateful or harassing content;
- adult or sexually explicit material;
- content that is unsafe, defamatory or infringes someone else's rights; or
- scams, malware, or deceptive offers that bait and switch.
Labelling of paid content
Sponsored, promoted and paid placements must be clearly distinguishable from our editorial content. We will label such content as sponsored or promoted so that readers can tell the difference, and you agree not to present paid content in a way that disguises its commercial nature.
Approval and review
All adverts and sponsored placements are subject to our review and approval before they go live. We may ask for changes, and we reserve the right to reject, pause or remove any advert at any time if it breaches these guidelines, the law or our other policies, or if we receive a valid complaint. Approval of an advert does not make us responsible for its content.
Compliance with South African standards
Adverts must comply with South African advertising standards, including the codes of the Advertising Regulatory Board, and with the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. Where an advert is found to breach those standards, you must amend or withdraw it promptly on our request.
Advertiser responsibility and indemnity
You are responsible for the content and legality of your adverts and for holding any rights, licences or permissions they require. You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your adverts or your breach of these guidelines. Nothing here limits any right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
