Easy family walks and nature outings near Table View, Bloubergstrand

Packing the pram and snacks is half the battle. The other half is finding a path that does not turn a family outing into a slog through sand or over roots. Table View and Bloubergstrand have several walks built for easy movement.

Why paved paths and boardwalks matter

If you plan poorly, you end up stuck in the wind or walking on soft sand that makes a simple outing feel like hard labour. The coast can be unforgiving when the weather turns, and there is no sense in struggling through terrain that does not suit your gear.

To keep things smooth, look for paved routes and boardwalks. These paths take the heavy lifting out of the day so you can focus on the view rather than how much effort it takes to push a stroller through deep sand or over tangled roots.

Paved paths and coastal stretches

Bloubergstrand to Dolphin Beach is the most reliable option for anyone with a pram. You can use the paved pathways that connect all the car parks between these two points, which keeps the wheels moving without any struggle . If you do not mind a longer stretch, Bloubergstrand beach itself is a long, flat area of sand stretching about 4.8km north to meet Dolphin Beach and Sunset Beach .

Sometimes the wind on the open beach gets too much for the little ones. When that happens, the footpath connecting Milnerton Lagoon Beach to Woodbridge Island is a solid alternative because it offers some shelter from those heavy coastal gusts .

Nature reserves and birdwatching

The Rietvlei Section in Table View is a massive 880 hectare space made of wetlands and fynbos . You do not have to worry about heavy lifting or difficult terrain here because part of the route uses a cement pathway. There are even benches placed along the way so you can sit down and rest whenever the kids need a break .

It is a top spot for birdwatching since there are two birdhides and boardwalks to explore . You might see many of the 70 species that visit the area each year . If you want to stay for lunch, there are braai and picnic facilities right on the shoreline .

Intaka Island

Intaka Island offers a much shorter walk if you are short on time. The circular route is about 1km long and takes you around constructed wetlands with lookout points over the pans . This loop is specifically designed to be wheelchair and pram friendly, so it is very low stress for parents .

What to prepare before you go

The weather is the one thing you cannot plan around, but you can prepare for it. Before you load up the car, check the wind speeds because a sunny day can turn into a struggle if the coastal gusts are too heavy. If you are walking near the shoreline, keep a close eye on the tide so you do not find yourself cut off from the path.

Packing is about making sure nobody gets hungry or thirsty halfway through the loop. There are no shops inside the Rietvlei Section, so you must bring your own food and plenty of water for everyone in the group. If you want to use the braai or picnic facilities, make sure you have everything sorted before you arrive.

Do not forget to bring enough small change. Some of the car parks require a fee to park, and it is much easier to pay at the start than to be stuck without the right coins when you are trying to leave.
