Construction of the Harmony Flats Nature Reserve Visitor Education Centre between Strand and Gordon’s Bay has been halted after the contractor was terminated due to slow progress, pushing the opening date back by nearly two years.
The City of Cape Town confirmed that the contractor, whose name remains undisclosed, was dismissed following poor performance. According to deputy mayor Eddie Andrews and Mayoral Committee member for Spatial Planning and Environment, the termination occurred due to the slow pace of construction.
The project, originally slated for a February 2027 opening adjacent to the Gustrouw Sports Grounds, has now been pushed back to December 2028. Andrews stated that if all goes according to plan, the completion date will be achieved.
